The Young Workers in the Green Economy hosted a community feedback session Tuesday September 17, 2013. The event was organized to preview the results found from 146 face to face surveys the Young Workers Committee collected Summer 2013. The survey asked young workers 18-34 what their barriers to employment and their priorities around the green economy are.

In addition, those in attendance were asked if any issues or populations should be investigated further and if any of the data resonated with them. One attendee, Yolanda Matthews, shared her struggle to understand exactly what employers are looking for. She noted that she has work experience but not a college degree, which has stopped her from finding work. Yet, her brother has a college degree but not enough work experience, as such he is also struggling to find work.

So, How can we solve these barriers?

Later that night small groups were formed to brainstorm recommendations for change. The recommendations from these small groups, the impactful stories shared, and the suggestions for further investigation will help shape the upcoming Young Workers in the Green Economy final report. Which will be released Tuesday November 12, 2013 at the Young Workers in the Green Economy Report Back.
