Why work at a grassroots organization like Got Green?

Got Green plays a vital role in building a Seattle free from environmental racism, where people of all incomes and from all backgrounds can thrive and be safe. I can’t wait to get started with the rest of the team in fulfilling our mission to build power for working class communities of color in South Seattle.

How are you feeling about GG’s tenant organizing for healthy public housing?

The state of Seattle Housing Authority units – particularly in the South End – is a hidden shame of “progressive Seattle.” Our work at Got Green will keep thousands healthy, safe, and whole in public units. It is a model for grassroots organizing and effective base building.

What does leadership & power mean to you?

Leadership is about believing a better world is possible, and then acting in such a way as to materialize it. Power is the sustainable source of civic energy that renews our institutions.

What excites you about Seattle’s future and how might Got Green help shape that future?

I am excited about the new wave of progressive leadership in Seattle City Hall. These elected officials campaigned on promises of making Seattle more affordable and equitable for all. There can be no better way of fulfilling that mission than to build alliances with on-the-ground orgs like Got Green, who are doing the work of building political will for systemic change.

When you aren’t fighting for justice, how do you spend your free time?

I enjoy boxing, running, watching sports, and reading history texts.
