What We Do
Founded in 2008, Got Green has a history of multi-issue environmental justice organizing and movement building – which has ranged from green job training programs, participation in local & national alliances, as well as waging several grassroots campaigns that have led to transformative policies and moved significant resources to our communities - for example: Priority Hire, Fresh Bucks, Green Pathways, Seattle’s Green New Deal, and more.
Through Got Green’s history we have advanced a narrative linking climate change to bread-and-butter issues of racial & economic injustice, engaged in tens of thousands of deep listening conversations with south Seattle residents, provided in-depth training & leadership development programs to hundreds of community members, and our grassroots committees have been spaces of strategy & collective action. Got Green’s current work is focused on fighting for healthy public housing
Healthy Public Housing Campaign
Our Public Housing Must Weather The Storms
We envision homes that provide all of us with stability, sanctuary, and a sense of belonging. Currently, housing is not a guaranteed human right, is unaffordable, is unsafe & unhealthy, and is set-up to maximize profits for the few at the expense of the many.
Got Green is organizing public housing tenants and fighting for healthy public housing. With repairs and retrofits, healthy public housing means better living conditions, protection from severe weather, and less climate pollution. With unstoppable tenant power, public housing in Seattle has the potential to be the healthiest housing in our city.
Through hundreds of deep-listening, door-to-door conversations, Got Green repeatedly hears that our communities need and deserve homes that nourish our health, safety, and dignity. The ability to weather storms begins with having a healthy place to live.
Repairs Now!
Public housing tenants are often forced to live in uncomfortable, unsafe, and unhealthy conditions that include leaks, mold, pests, broken appliances, crumbling structures, poor ventilation, and more. Right now, Got Green is fighting for legally-mandated habitability repairs in all of Seattle’s public housing with a long-term vision of public housing that centers tenant power, is fully weatherization, and is free from fossil fuels.
